Mercury Patent Plate

I got a full image of the patent plate (car is still trapped in the barn with no doors) and the set of shop+maintenance manuals I bought arrived. So, now I know more: White Top with a Green Body 3 speed manual, shift on the column NO power brakes NO power steering NO steering lock This car is getting easier and easier to restore every day.

62 Mercury saga ... slingshot engaged

We got a signed bill-of-sale today, which means now I own that car. Now we begin the process of moving the beast to my house and dealing with registration without a title. And I just ordered a set of shop manuals - so the money pit has opened. I will post a few more pics when I get it out into the daylight and as the project progresses.

1962 Mercury Monterey pics

Image
It is still not "mine" - and is currently in a barn with no barn door, so these pics were taken at noon in the dark. The last tag on it is May 1984.. This means it has been off the road for for quite a bit longer than it ever was on the road. Interior looks great (even the seats look good for the age). Car is filthy, but the paint looks fine. Someone removed the back glass with a hammer which is too bad. The engine has a lot more disconnected and surface rust than I had hoped.

1962 Mercury Monterey 4-door sedan

I just wanted to share that I might soon become the owner of a '62 Mercury 4 door sedan. The circumstances of that acquisition are weird and may fall apart - so I say "might" until I have it in the driveway. I hope it comes to fruition. Beyond being the former owner of 1977 Ford F150, 3-on-the-tree (people thought I was a genius for knowing how shift) with a 302 & watching YouTube <=> I really know nothing about old cars with carburetors. This thing has a 292 V8 Y-block, 2 barrel carb, and a 3 speed automatic transmission. It [ran when parked] sometime in the 1980's - and has been in a garage since. My daughter is excited about helping to get it running and cruising in it. It will seat 6 comfortably. I am hopeful: it is only 27.3% less clean & rusty than she imagines it will be I can make it start, idle, go forward + backward, stop, and not overheat in <2 weeks doesn't have too many mice living in it doesn't smell
